ENGINEERBOOKLET

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 26 September 2026

In short

  • Engineer Booklet is a static site with no accounts, no forms, and no server-side database — there is very little of yours to collect in the first place.
  • We store your light/dark theme choice in your browser only. Nothing you do here is sent to us directly.
  • Playing an embedded video, or (once running) seeing an ad, lets Google set its own cookies under its own privacy policy — never without your consent if you're in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland.
  • You have the rights GDPR and UK GDPR give you — access, correction, deletion, objection, and more — for whatever data does exist. See Your rights.
  • Questions, removal requests, or any other enquiry all go to one place: info@engineer-booklet.com.

This policy explains what personal data Engineer Booklet processes, why, on what legal basis, and what rights you have over it — including the specific rights granted under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), and Switzerland's Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP).

Who we are

Engineer Booklet ("we," "us," "this site") operates engineer-booklet.com and the associated YouTube channel. It's run independently, without a separate registered business entity. For the purposes of GDPR and UK GDPR, Engineer Booklet is the data controller for the processing described in this policy. Every privacy matter — questions, corrections, removal requests, or anything else in this policy — goes to a single address: info@engineer-booklet.com.

What data we collect

The site itself has no accounts, no forms, and no server-side database — it's a static site, and it doesn't ask you for anything. Two things happen in the background regardless:

  • Browser storage we set. Your light/dark theme choice is saved in your browser's local storage. It isn't transmitted to us; we have no record of it. (Your cookie-consent choice, where one is asked for, is stored by Google's consent message — see Cookies.)
  • Server access logs. Our hosting provider, Hostinger, automatically records standard technical data for every request — IP address, page requested, timestamp, user agent, and referrer — the way virtually every web host does, for security, abuse prevention, and keeping the site running.

Beyond that, the only other data processing happens through third parties you interact with directly — playing a YouTube embed, or (once live) seeing an ad — each covered in its own section below.

Legal basis for processing

Under GDPR Article 6, every purpose we (or a processor on our behalf) process data for needs a lawful basis. Here is ours, purpose by purpose:

Processing purposes and their legal basis
PurposeData involvedLegal basis
Remembering your theme choiceLocal storage, browser-onlyStrictly necessary for the feature you asked for — no consent required (ePrivacy Art. 5(3) exemption; GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)/(f))

Cookies & similar technologies

If you're in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, a consent message from Google (a Google-certified consent management platform, run through AdSense) appears on your first visit, before any advertising cookie is set. Your choice is stored in a cookie set by that message, and you can change or withdraw it at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page — see Exercising your rights.

The exact cookies Google sets can change on their end without notice; this table reflects what's typical for these services. Google's own disclosures are authoritative — see the links in the sections below.

YouTube embeds

Video pages embed YouTube via youtube-nocookie.com, which limits cookies until you actually press play. Once you play a video, YouTube (Google) may set cookies and collect data under its own privacy policy. We don't receive or see any of that data ourselves.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

This site uses Google AdSense to show ads. Google and its advertising partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites. You can review or opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings, and read more at How Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland see Google's consent message before any ad-related cookie is set, and can change or withdraw their choice at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page. If you decline, Google shows non-personalized or limited ads instead.

Who we share data with

We don't sell personal data, and we don't have any of our own to share beyond what a third party collects directly through your own interaction with their embed. The processors and recipients involved are:

  • Hostinger — our hosting provider, processes server access logs.
  • Google (YouTube, AdSense) — processes data you generate by playing a video or being shown/interacting with an ad, as described above.

International data transfers

Google LLC is based in the United States. Where Google processes data described in this policy outside the EEA/UK/Switzerland, it does so under recognized safeguards — Google is a certified participant in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK and Swiss extensions, which the European Commission, the UK, and Switzerland recognize as providing an adequate level of protection. See Google's own privacy policy for their current certification and safeguards.

How long we keep data

We don't retain personal data ourselves — there's no database on our end to retain it in. Your theme preference stays in your browser's local storage until you clear your browser data. Your consent choice stays in the consent cookie until it expires or you clear it. Server access logs are retained by Hostinger under its own retention schedule; see Hostinger's privacy policy for specifics. Data held by Google (YouTube/AdSense) is retained under Google's own policies, which you can review or manage at Google's Data & Privacy controls.

Your rights

If GDPR, UK GDPR, or the Swiss FADP applies to you, you have the following rights over your personal data. Because we hold so little of it ourselves, most requests will point you to the relevant third party (Google) — but we'll always help you figure out where to go.

  • Access — ask what personal data we (or our processors) hold about you.
  • Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Erasure / removal ("right to be forgotten") — ask us to delete data, where there's no overriding reason to keep it. Send removal requests to info@engineer-booklet.com.
  • Restriction — ask us to limit how we use your data in certain circumstances.
  • Portability — ask for data you've provided in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests, including at any time to any processing for advertising purposes.
  • Withdraw consent — at any time, with no effect on the lawfulness of processing before the withdrawal.
  • Not be subject to solely automated decisions — not relevant here: we don't use automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

Exercising your rights

Every request — removal, access, correction, objection, or anything else above — goes to the same place: email info@engineer-booklet.com and describe what you'd like. We'll respond within one month, as GDPR Article 12 requires (extendable by two further months for complex requests, in which case we'll tell you why). To change or withdraw cookie consent specifically, use the Cookie settings link at the bottom of any page on the site, which reopens the consent message, or clear your browser's site data for engineer-booklet.com. To control what Google does with data it holds, use Google's own privacy controls directly, since we can't act on Google's data on your behalf.

Complaints

We'd rather you raised a concern with us directly first, at info@engineer-booklet.com, so we can try to put it right. You're also entitled to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority:

  • EEA: your local data protection authority — see the EDPB's list of national authorities.
  • UK: the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
  • Switzerland: the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).

Children's privacy

This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16 — or the age of digital consent set by your own country's law, which under GDPR Article 8 may be as low as 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we'll delete it.

Do Not Track & Global Privacy Control

Browser "Do Not Track" signals were never standardized around a common meaning, so this site doesn't respond to them. We do honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal where your browser sends one: if detected, we ask Google to show you non-personalized ads only, meaning ads that are not based on your past browsing. Google may still use cookies for things like frequency capping, aggregated reporting and fraud prevention. In the EEA, UK and Switzerland, the consent message still asks for your choice, because the law there requires it.

Changes to this policy

If what this site collects or how it uses ads changes materially, we'll update this page and change the "last updated" date above. We won't reduce your rights under this policy retroactively without your consent.
